Circa 1936 Tonk Brothers era Washburn 5257 made by Regal in its Chicago factory. Serial number 1950. We consider this auditorium sized model to be one of the best sounding flattops ever made and on par with the best of 1930s era Martins, for example. Factory X braced. Solid Adirondack spruce top and rosewood back/sides. As with most Washburn 5257s built by Regal and pre-Gibson building them, the rosewood back is laminated and the rosewood sides are solid. This guitar has plenty of wear in all the right places but plays wonderfully and has tone to die for. Mahogany neck with slight "V" profile". We reset the neck. Pick guard appears original. Original interior yellow paper oval label in tact and in good condition. Replacement ebony "smile" bridge is a replica of the original bridge. Original bridge included. New compensated bone saddle. Replacement plastic bridge pins. Original bridge plate has been placed with a replica maple bridge plate slightly tucked under bracing just as the original was. Original bridge plate had cracked in half and is included. Original ebony fretboard. Original bone nut. We replaced the first three frets and all other frets are original and have been leveled/dressed. Five of the tuners are original and one tuner has been replaced. All function well. Repaired top crack running from bridge to bottom of lower bout. Two shorter repaired top cracks on the treble side of the lower bout and one on the treble side of the upper bout. No back/side cracks. Simply an exceptional guitar!
