Oscar Schmidt

Founded in 1879, Oscar Schmidt was one of the largest musical instrument manufacturers of the early 20th century.  Their factory in Jersey City, NJ produced iconic acoustic guitars that were played by many of the early blues and traditional musicians of the early 20th century. Oscar Schmidt sold guitars branded under many names such as Stella, Sovereign, Galaino,First Hawaiian conservatory, La Scala, Avalon, and Jewell.  Oscar Schmidt was purchased by Harmony in the late 1930s.  Harmony later used the Stella and Sovereign brand names on instruments it produced in its Chicago,Il factory.
