This Tonk Brothers era c. 1932 Washburn 5238 "Deluxe" is in excellent playing condition and has the wonderful bell like tone we love about these guitars.  This guitar was likely made by Regal for the Tonk Brothers' Washburn branded line after Regal took over production of Washburn branded instruments from J.R.Stewart.   As is typical of these top of the line Washburns, beautiful gold leaf filigree adorns the top. Factory X braced with a 12 fret neck joint.  MOP headstock inlay and diamond/snowflake fretboard position marker inlay.  Ivoroid fretboard and body binding.  Ebony "smile bridge" with MOP inlay appears to be original.  Ebony fretboard.  Mahogany neck with a very comfortable rounded profile and beautiful volute. Some very faint evidence of a bridge reglue at some point.   The top does show picking hand wear below the soundhole as represented in the pictures.  Guitar has various scratches, scuffs, dings, etc... from may years of play but is in overall very good structural condition.  Not top cracks.  Two very thin approximately 2.5" long finish checks on back and one very thin approx. 3.5" finish check near the endpin area that do not extend through to the inside of the guitar.  Original frets are in good condition with plenty of life left in them.  Original gold plated and pearl buttoned tuners function well.  Non original hardshell case included.
