1936 Tonk Brothers era Washburn 5257 1/2 "Solo Deluxe" made by Regal in its Chicago factory.  Serial number 1795.  If you have been following out shop for some time you have heard us sing the praises of vintage Washburn 5257s as some of the best vintage flattops in existence.  Here we have an even scarcer model, the 5257 1/2 with sunburst finish.  We consider this auditorium sized model to be one of the best sounding flattops ever made and on par with the best of 1930s era Martins, for example.  Factory X braced.  Solid Adirondack spruce top and rosewood back/sides.   As with most Washburn 5257s built by Regal and pre-Gibson building them, the rosewood back is laminated and the rosewood sides are solid.  This guitar is not a museum piece and has multiple repaired top cracks, plenty of play wear, many scratches, nicks, etc...  It is very structurally sound, however, in great playing condition and tonally the guitar is amazing with a fantastic full and powerful sound with plenty of "bite" as well.  Mahogany neck with slight "V" profile".  Neck has been previosly reset.  Pickguard is original.  Original interior yellow paper oval Washburn label in tact and in good condition.  Rosewood headstock overlay.  Pearl headstock inlay.  7 ply neck with 14th fret  neck joint.  Replacement ebony "smile" bridge is a period correct replica of the original bridge.  New compensated bone saddle.  Replacement plastic bridge pins.  Bridge plate appears to be a replacement and is in good condition with minimal chip out.  Original ebony fretboard with rectangular MOP inlay pattern.  Original bone nut.  Original gold plated Grover tuners function very well.  Non-original hardshell case.
